FAQs

When do I start taking Babykixx prenatal vitamins?

The best time to start taking a prenatal vitamin is 3-months prior to conception.  During the first month of pregnancy the baby’s neural tube is developing, which will turn into the baby’s brain and spinal cord.  Babykixx will support prenatal growth at the earliest stages of development.

What nutrients are in Babykixx Prenatal Vitamins?*

We have six different formulations designed for each woman's unique circumstances.  Two of our formulations are designed for every woman whether they are pre-conception, pregnant, nursing or just looking to take a great health woman's supplement. The other four formulations are designed for common risks that occur in many pregnancies such as hypertension and preeclampsia, risk of pre-term labor, woman at higher risk for neural tube defect or patients with an MTHR defect. Other risks such as Sickle Cell disease, history of cleft lip or palate, Crohn's or Colitis are also addressed with these four prenatal vitamin formulations that your health practitioner can recommend.

Sprout is our baseline prenatal formulation and it follows the American College of Obstetrician and Gynecologist (ACOG) prenatal vitamin recommendations very closely.

Sprout - baseline prenatal vitamin formulation

We call it Sprout+ when you choose to add Iron. Nourish has the same ACOG baseline formulation but it adds Algae derived Omega 3s which includes 200mg of DHA and 100mg of EPA. Nourish becomes Nourish plus when you add Iron.

What is the difference between prenatal vitamins and regular multivitamins?#

Standard adult multivitamins do not contain as much iron, calcium, and folic acid as prenatal vitamins. Prenatal vitamins ensure you are getting enough of these extra essential nutrients during your pregnancy, but they are not a substitute for eating right. Here's why these vitamins and nutrients are important during a pregnancy. Research suggests that taking prenatal vitamins can greatly reduce the risk of having a baby with low birth weight.  Just like when you were a child and told to drink your milk for strong bones, the same thing applies to pregnancy. Calcium helps promote strong bones for the mother and baby during pregnancy and helps maintain your nervous, muscular, and circulatory systems and ensures they are all functioning properly. Folic acid helps prevent serious deformities to the brain and spinal cord caused by neural tube defects. Iron enriches the body with blood and muscle cells for the mother's body and the baby's body and helps these cells develop. When a body lacks iron, a condition that occurs is anemia, which is when the blood doesn't have enough healthy red blood cells.

What does Babykixx offer that a generic vitamin does not?

Most prenatal vitamins are critically short on the following: Vitamin D, Omega 3 Fatty Acids, Iron and Folic Acid.  High concentrations of these vitamins are needed to support development, but these pills are nauseating for expecting moms.  The Babykixx snack is a healthy alternative with no after taste. Unlike generic vitamins, Babykixx has specific formulations to meet an individual Mom’s needs.  Some Moms need additional folic acid or DHA.  No more daily estimations, our formulas are specific to the individual, ensuring that both Mom and Baby receive all the nutrients they need.
